BODEGAS RIOJANAS

Profile

Founded in 1890 by the Frías-Artacho families, Bodegas Riojanas is one of Rioja’s 13 centenarian wineries.

Mission Statements and Strategies:

  1. Strong brands: Commitment to the positioning, identity and differentiation of widely-known brands such as Monte Real and Viña Albina. The wines produced under these brands are mainly Reserva and Gran Reserva classification.

  2. Value of the vineyard: The winery currently controls 1,700 vineyard plots: 800 hectares, out of which they own 200 and the rest are small plots belonging to winegrowers who have worked alongside Bodegas Riojanas for generations. This knowledge of the vineyard has provided Bodegas Riojanas with a dynamic initiative to find new “origins” or terroirs, to maintain the style of each brand, launch new wines and limited editions based on the unique appeal of each distinct vineyard propelling the winery into new innovations from their historical foundations.

  3. Diversification: With a clear focus on the market, Bodegas Riojanas began a diversification strategy with the founding of Bodegas Torreduero in Toro in 1999, a policy which also brought along high-quality wines from the most prestigious Spanish Denominations of Origin -Rioja, Toro, Rueda, Rías Baixas and Ribera de Duero. The latest incorporation to the group has been “Alacer”, high-altitude wines from in Ribera de Duero.

  4. Internationalization: In recent years, Bodegas Riojanas has intensified their presence in international markets which has resulted in greater profitability for the company. Its wines are present in more than 30 countries today, the main markets being: Ireland, USA, Mexico and China where the consumption of Spanish wines increases each year.

  5. Sustainability: An essential tool to achieve the objectives of innovation and permanence of their centuries-old heritage is the firm commitment that Bodegas Riojanas keeps with sustainability, not only in the vineyards, but also in all their activities.
